Have you always wanted to straighten your teeth, but didn’t like the thought of having metal braces on your teeth? Or maybe it was the thought of giving up so many of your favorite foods for the length of treatment. And speaking of length, that is what turns many people off of orthodontic treatment.

But with Invisalign, you can straighten your teeth without worrying about these problems: no metal mouth, no need to give up your favorite foods, and treatment in half the time of traditional braces.

Invisalign is an amazing development in orthodontics, but it’s not right for everyone. To find out if you’re a candidate for Invisalign in Scripps Ranch, please call (858) 271-1010 or contact us online today for an appointment with cosmetic dentist Dr. Ramin Goshtasbi at Oasis Dental Arts.

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign is an orthodontic approach that’s been growing dramatically in popularity. That’s because it offers many benefits for people looking to straighten their teeth, close gaps in their smile, or relieve crowding. Invisalign offers orthodontic treatment with:

  • No metal wires or brackets
  • Improved comfort–nothing to poke cheeks or tongue
  • No diet restrictions
  • Removable aligners for easy oral hygiene
  • Great results in half the time

Instead of metal wires and brackets, Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners. These BPA-free plastic aligners let you straighten your teeth without having a metal mouth.

Metal braces aren’t just an eyesore, they can make your cheeks sore. But Invisalign’s aligners are smooth and won’t poke your cheeks or nick your tongue.

Traditional braces come with all kinds of diet restrictions. You may have to give up some of your favorites, including pizza, bagels, popcorn, gum, and many others. But because they are removable, you can keep eating all those foods you love.

And you won’t have to worry about the ordeal of cleaning out your braces. Just remove your aligners and brush and floss normally.

But many people’s favorite benefit is that treatment time can be so much shorter. To understand why Invisalign can do that, you have to know how they work.

How Invisalign Works

All orthodontics works using the same principles. When subjected to force, your bone will naturally remodel itself. Orthodontics controls the forces on your teeth, which apply force to the bone, causing it to remodel. Bone is removed from one side of a tooth and rebuilt on another, allowing the tooth to move.

In traditional orthodontics, the force is applied by a wire that works to pull the tooth in a certain direction, using metal brackets bonded to the teeth.

But in Invisalign, this force is applied using clear plastic aligners that slip over your teeth. At the start of the process, we take models and/or digital images of your teeth in their current configuration. We send these models to the Invisalign facility, where they use them to design an optimal program of movement for your teeth.

This movement is broken down into a series of definite steps. These steps are then realized as aligners that accomplish the motions. You will then come back to our office and we’ll check to make sure the first aligner fits properly. You’ll start out wearing aligners for two weeks, but as treatment progresses, you will likely only have to wear each aligner for about a week to achieve the desired movement.

How Invisalign Has Gotten Faster

In the past, Invisalign took about the same amount of time as traditional braces.  It used to be that people were expected to wear each aligner for two weeks before moving to the next one.

Now, Invisalign has announced that most people only have to wear each aligner for about one week before moving to the next aligner–essentially cutting the treatment time in half.

How can they do this? Because Invisalign is all designed by computers, they are able to track all their cases. They have identified ways to optimize the path that each tooth takes to achieve the desired results most efficiently. They have also figured out ways to optimize the force that aligners apply to the tooth so that Invisalign can achieve these movements most efficiently. And they’ve developed a new, stronger aligner material that is better capable of delivering that force.

Put together, these advances mean that you may be able to get treatment with Invisalign in half the time.
